The World Economic Forum will host a gathering of renowned technology and science innovators, Sept. 10-12 in Tianjin, China, to focus on how innovation will impact societal and business practices.
Georgia Tech Professor of Interactive Computing Thad Starner is an invited speaker at the summit and will showcase a curated exhibit of wearable computing devices for the more than 1,500 participants from 90 countries. Starner is also a technical lead on Google Glass.
Established in 2007 as the foremost global gathering on science, technology, and innovation, the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions convenes the next generation of fast-growing enterprises shaping the future of business and society together with leaders from major multinationals as well as government, media, academia and civil society.
Meeting under the theme Creating Value through Innovation, this year’s meeting is designed to enhance creative thinking and experiential learning through hands-on discovery and innovative session formats.
Starner, along with Georgia Tech Research Scientist Clint Zeagler, will show the Wearable Computing Exhibit, which includes electronic textiles, advances in battery life and on-body interfaces. Several head-mounted displays for user participation are part of the full exhibit. Starner will give guided tours on the history of wearable computing technology and will highlight breakthroughs in the field as well as likely future developments.
