Throughout the day, many people keep track of a large sea of information from a variety of data sources. Information such as news headlines, weblogs, stock quotes, peers' web sites, organizational intranets, etc., all provide information that can enrich the lives of the individual and can support the productivity of the worker. RSS feeds can help people to keep track of these sources, but can only help if the data provides actually publishes an RSS feed. Furthermore, many of the providers who do make feeds available do not include all of the user's desired information.

The Buzz lets you subscribe to a wide variety of free Information Channels. Each information channel presents information from a particular source on the Internet or on your computer. For example, you can subscribe to the BBC World News channel to get the latest news headlines from the BBC, or you can subscribe to the Interesting Images channel to get the latest "interesting" photos from Flickr.com. You can create your own channel lineup by subscribing to the many already-existing channels or create your own.

The Buzz collates many of these information sources and non-obtrusively cycles through information collages assembled from these sources. This "slow push" style of information conveyence enables the user to monitor numerous information sources opportunistically, gathering the information gradually and throughout the day during breaks that he or she would already be taking.

The Buzz runs on a secondary display, if available, or as the desktop background. It is also well suited to peripheral displays such as in hallways or breakrooms. You can find examples of The Buzz information displays on the screenshots page.
