Learn defensive driving through safe animation

Presentation of Projects for the Computer Animation class CS4496/7496 in TSRB 132, on September 28, 9:30-10:00am

Fall 2006, Instructor Jarek Rossignac

This is the first project for the animation class. Teams were each to design and implement an online tool for authoring animations of car accidents. The tool should support the design of the streets and intersections and the design and synchronization of the trajectory of the cars involved in the accident or driving by at that time. The trajectories are designed as interpolations of keyframes. Students have explored several types of interpolation and have implemented collision detection and dynamic simulaiton of skidding after collision... with various sound and visual effects. They were also asked to use their own tool to reproduce animations of several typical accidents and animations of what can be done to avoid these accidents. Three teams were selected to present their work on September 28 in TSRB 132, 9:30-10:00. The best project of these three will be selected by popular vote and will receive the Animation Award. All are invited to attend and vote. The other teams will present their work in class on October 3.
